There are many types and categories when it comes to a camp van. These are generally known as recreational vehicles or RVs because they can be used for camping as well as other recreational activities.
The most luxurious and expensive type of a camp van is the class A motor home. These are really high class units built as modified trucks and referred to as motorhomes. These motorhomes are used for longer distances and for carrying a large number of people.
Another type of camp van is a vehicle built from a commercial bus and it is just another kind of RV. These usually will offer larger space and luxury for a larger number of people.
What is a True Camp Van?

A true camp van is really a modified car or small van and may also be referred to as a camping car. It will be designed from a typical van and will most often have a raised roof to create standing room when used as a camp van. In this type of camp van the backside is usually replaced with a useable cabinet.
A camp van that is built from a combination of a van and truck is referred to as a class C motor home. The front side is like that of a conventional van, while the rear living quarters is built on the chassis of a truck.
Sometimes a camp van may be referred to as a Cab-Over in which the roof is raised over the top of the van and is usually the sleeping space. These are usually referred to as mini motorhomes and include a bed and other living quarter’s accommodations.
A truck camper is another type of a camp van. This is just a small camp van that is built from or on a pickup truck. This unit may also be referred to as a topper. It is most often used by hunters and other outdoors sportsmen.
A Camp Van makes for many possibilities
A camp van is also sometimes made by connecting a popup camper trailer to a motorized van or vehicle. The fold down trailer camp van is pulled by motorized vehicle and has sufficient storage space for all your camping needs. A bigger version of the folding trailer may be referred to as a caravan and it is also towed by a motorized vehicle. Because it has a much larger space inside it makes for a bigger camp van.
Units that include trailers or caravans are not the most comfortable because the shortage of space the storage compartments will not include bathrooms, toilets and kitchens. Their basic use as a camp van is only for the storage of equipment for camping and sometimes bicycles or motorcycles.
